Giants Bridle Dodgers, 2-1
|
San Francisco Giants starter Jerry Rollins worked his magic, as he helped his team defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 2-1. Rollins went 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 4, and struck out 6. His record improves to 5-5. Ben Bowden closed the door for San Francisco, picking up his 3rd save of the year.
The Giants got an important contribution from catcher Pat Pethel, who in the bottom of the fourth hit a cutter into left for a 2-run home run. It was his 11th home run of the season and put the Giants ahead, 2-0.
Afterward, Giants manager Mike Kilkenny was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
The win gives San Francisco a season record of 40-34.
