Wahlin Goes Deep 3 Times

Austin Bats left fielder Shawn Wahlin put on a dazzling display of power today at Olympic Stadium against the Nashville Outlaws. In the 11-7 Bats victory Wahlin penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts.

"He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Nashville manager Billy Hollis said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well."

Along with his three home runs, the 32-year-old had 3 hits in 4 at-bats, 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

"Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Wahlin said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today."

Shawn Wahlin grounded out in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Jeff Keniston in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off Jeff Keniston in the 5th, walked in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off António Mora in the 9th.

This season Wahlin is swinging the bat at a .244 rate with 84 hits in 344 at-bats. To date he has hit 22 home runs, scored 45 runs and driven in 60.
