Asheville Lose, 8-0, to Drive, Mateo

Manny Mateo of the Greenville Drive spun his magic on the Asheville Tourists today. He blanked them 8-0 on 1 hit, registering 7 strikeouts and 3 walks.
"The bottom line was I just kept the ball down," Mateo said. "My breaking stuff was down. Everything was down."
Talking to reporters in the postgame interview, Greenville skipper Tomás Rivera said the team "got solid pitching, good defense and took great team at-bats in a lot of different situations."
"Manny pitched really well but this was a solid performance by everyone," he said.
This season Mateo has fanned 44 in 61.2 innings and collected a 1-5 record with a 2.77 ERA.

Drive Win Round 1

The Round 1 may not have lived up to the expectation that it would be a dogfight that would go the distance. The Greenville Drive, however, are not complaining.
The Drive were plenty happy to have wrapped up the series early and to have knocked out the Donora Ducks to advance to the Round 2.
Greenville won the final game by a 7-3 count at Desperados Stadium and the series 4-2.
Drive catcher Dan Bell was named series MVP, as he hit .348 with a .423 on-base percentage. He added 2 home runs, drove in 5 RBI and scored 3 runs.
"It's not going to be the last time Donora makes it to the playoffs, so it's sure a nice feeling to put them out this year," Bell said. "We just need to keep this going and take it day by day."
The Greenville Drive will play against the Asheville Tourists in the next round. Asheville won their series against the Ottawa Lynx 4 games to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
