Knights Drop Empire, 8-3
|
Led by Mickey Hart, the Charlotte Knights defeated the New York Empire, 8-3. Hart was 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2 for the Knights. Tony Román picked up the win, improving his season record to 5-2. He struck out 3 in 5.2 innings. The save was credited to Dan Phy, his 6th.
Alan Dupont had a big 2-run double for the Knights in the top of the ninth inning. With Charlotte leading 4-3 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from 23-year old left-handed pitcher Jeff Longnecker and swatted a double to right. It was his 10th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Knights ahead, 6-3.
Dupont called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
The triumph puts Charlotte at 23-18 for the season.
