Marauders Fall Short, 5-4, at Washington
|
In a close game at Palmer Stadium, the Washington Generals edged the Manchester Marauders, 5-4. Washington center fielder Anthony Werstein stood apart with his performance. He was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. José González earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2.2 innings. His record is now 3-5. Washington now has a record of 18-18 with the win.
Werstein had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 1-2 circle change from Danny Yeary, he banged a solo home run to right-center, giving the Generals a 5-4 lead. It was the 5th home run of the year for Werstein.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Manchester manager Anthony Phillips. "But we decided not to take it."
