The Charlotte Knights took Austin pitcher Mike Vaughan's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Dell Diamond. The final score had Charlotte getting past the Bats, 1-0. Vaughan went 6.2 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 7. Charlotte reliever Julián Alarcon picked up the win to move to 2-2. Jon Boucher suffered the loss. Sean Wells picked up the save, his 2nd.

Charlotte used the timely hitting of Luca Monighetti to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Knights on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We believe in ourselves and we're willing to work hard. It's a good combination," Monighetti told the Charlotte Herald.

Charlotte, now 8-14, is off to a slow start.
