Getting an impressive start from Cal Bates, Memphis beat Austin by the score of 3-2. Memphis reliever Dan Thiner picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Jon Boucher shouldered the loss. Albert Espinosa nailed down his 2nd save.
Marty Byrde aided the Memphis cause with a run-scoring ground out in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the catcher went 1-3 with a walk.
After the game, Memphis manager Deshun Dixon applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
The loss drops the Bats to 4-5.
