Memphis Roughed Up By Bats
|
The Memphis Blues and Austin Bats were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
The Austin Bats topped the Memphis Blues, 8-1, with youngster Willie Mays Hayes playing a key role. Hayes hit 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice for the Bats in the win. Danny Shuler earned the win for Austin. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 1-1.
With Austin leading 2-1 in the top of the third, Hayes hit a cutter from Bob Navarro for a 2-run home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Bats ahead, 4-1.
"I wish every win came this easy," said Hayes.
The win puts Austin at 4-3.
