Generals Lose to Blues, 5-2
|
Memphis picked up a win at Gateway Field, bumping off the Washington Generals, 5-2. Pitcher Cal Bates was a major reason the Blues emerged victorious. In 6.1 innings, Bates surrendered 9 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Roki Sasaki notched his 3rd save in 4 chances.
The Blues got a big at-bat from third baseman Dave Goff. For the game, Goff was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 21st home run of the season gave Memphis a 3-1 lead.
Goff attributed the win to his team's "hyper resolve."
The victory gives Memphis a record of 77-69.
