Late Rally by Scrappers Secures 5-4 Win
|
The 5-4 Mahoning Valley win over Washington was due largely to Walt Wetterau. The Scrappers second baseman was 3-4 with 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. José Martínez recorded the save, making him 13 for 18. The win for the Scrappers raised their record to 71-71.
The game was all tied up in the bottom of the eighth, until Wetterau delivered big-time for Mahoning Valley, stroking a dramatic run-scoring single off Edmund Dippel. The game-changing hit put the Scrappers on top, 5-4.
"Being able to play a game for a living is one thing. Being able to play it well and contribute to a win is even better," Wetterau told the Mahoning Valley Chronicle.
