Washington and Austin got after it at Dell Diamond.

Benefiting from Jed Mergenthal's productive game, the Washington Generals downed the Austin Bats, 9-5. Mergenthal was 4-5 with a double and 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Generals. Washington pitcher Arturo Quintanilla got the win. He's now 3-0. Iván Álvarez was tagged with the loss.

Mergenthal had a big at-bat with the bases loaded in the top of the fourth inning, when he hit a 2-run single. The Generals went on to win.

"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Mergenthal told the Washington Today. "You win just by scoring more runs."

With the win, Washington pushed its record to 73-65.
