Liberty Take Down Samurai, 5-4
|
The Philadelphia Liberty picked up a win at Roughnecks Ballpark, knocking off the China Grove Samurai, 5-4. On the mound for Philadelphia was left-hander Juan Martínez, who played a pivotal role in the win. Philadelphia reliever Randy Jennings picked up the win, raising his record to 4-3. Gil Giddings was tagged with the loss. The win lifted the Philadelphia record to 79-60.
Coming to the plate with one out in the bottom of the 12th inning, Philadelphia designated hitter Shaun Kayse had a chance to be the hero. Facing China Grove pitcher Gil Giddings with the bases empty, Kayse hit a solo home run.
"The ending was a real humdinger," Martínez told reporters after the game.
