Blues Shut Out Scrappers, 3-0
|
Memphis got a first-rate effort from pitcher Jeff Perkins, who frustrated Mahoning Valley hitters en route to a 3-0 Blues triumph at Gateway Field. Memphis has now won 3 straight, while the Scrappers have lost 3 in a row.
The game could have flipped with no one out in the top of the fifth. But Jeff Perkins made what his manager later called "an A-plus pitch." With runners on 1st and 2nd and Mahoning Valley trailing 2-0, Perkins threw a fastball to Clarence Bellotti and Bellotti hit into a double play.
