Scrappers Raise Rally Flag, Beat Nashville, 2-0
|
Nashville wasted a solid 7.1-inning effort from starting pitcher Jeff Werstein, losing to Mahoning Valley, 2-0, at Olympic Stadium. The triumph puts Mahoning Valley at 80-53 for the season.
Mahoning Valley used a clutch hit from Stan Quarto to get the win. The left fielder drilled a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Scrappers ahead, 1-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Quarto.
