San Diego shortstop Ned Shiers made his presence felt in the 6-3 Surf Dawgs triumph over the Mexico City Chupacabras. Shiers went 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The winner in relief was José Rivera. He is now 3-1. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. The win makes San Diego 60-69.

Shiers had a game-changing double in the top of the ninth. On a 0-1 forkball from Luis Padilla, he banged a 2-run double to right, giving the Surf Dawgs a 5-3 lead. It was the 7th double of the year for Shiers.

"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Shiers.
