Liberty Win, 6-5, at Memphis
|
Philadelphia Liberty starter Juan Martínez was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Memphis Blues, 6-5. Martínez went 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 0, and struck out 6. His record improves to 7-4. Philadelphia has now won 3 straight, while the Blues have lost 3 in a row.
The Liberty got an important contribution from center fielder Anthony Werstein, who in the top of the third punched a 3-1 fastball into left for a 3-run home run. It was his 28th home run of the season and put the Liberty ahead, 4-0.
"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," Martínez said in postgame remarks. "Soon enough, the finish line will be in sight."
