Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Austin Bats and Mahoning Valley Scrappers.

Mahoning Valley first baseman Clarence Bellotti had a good game, even if his team did not. The Scrappers dropped a 5-3 decision to Austin at Canal Park. Bellotti went 3-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Austin reliever Mike Banky got the win, raising his record to 1-1. Cliff Offredi was tagged with the loss. Jeremy Waiden, credited with the save, is now 3 for 4 in save opportunities.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Abel Vermeersch? The Austin right fielder had a 2-run single in the top of the sixth inning to put the Bats on top, 4-3. For the game, Vermeersch had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Vermeersch.

With the victory, the Bats upped their record to 55-53.
