Castaneda Excels, Vancouver Levels New York
|
Behind the bravura of shortstop Andy Castaneda, the Vancouver Grizzlies topped the New York Empire by the score of 13-3. Castaneda went 3-5 with 2 home runs, while adding 7 RBI and scoring twice for the Grizzlies. Jim Dotterweich, the winner, improved to 11-8. He held the Empire to 3 runs on 6 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 2. Steve Hilts notched his 24th save in 29 chances.
Early in the game, Castaneda had a grand slam home run for Vancouver. It was his 6th home run of the season and put the Grizzlies on top, 4-0.
"Things didn't bounce our way," said New York skipper Jack Albright.
The win for the Grizzlies raised their record to 64-43.
