Pergman, Scrappers Beat Samurai, 8-3
|
Mahoning Valley right fielder Ronald Pergman contributed to his team's 8-3 win over the China Grove Samurai. Pergman, who is tied for 4th in the HL with a .532 slugging percentage, went 4 for 4 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Scrappers. Chad Ávila got the win, improving to 5-5. He worked 5 innings, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. The win makes Mahoning Valley 47-50.
The Scrappers got a lift from second baseman Tim Flores, who in the bottom of the second stroked a 1-2 slider into left for a 2-run double. It was his 17th double of the season and put the Scrappers ahead, 2-1.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Flores said after the game.
