Frank Poncherello made an impact in the 6-5 China Grove win over Washington. Poncherello, who finished 2nd in the HL in doubles with 46 in 2050, was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. With the win, the Samurai improved to 38-48.

The most significant at-bat for China Grove came with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth. Samurai third baseman Anthony Bridgerton hit a 2-run single to win the game.

"It wasn't our best performance," said Poncherello, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
