Piechocki Belts 2 Homers in 9-2 Win
|
Good production from shortstop Ron Piechocki helped the Austin Bats topple the Washington Generals, 9-2. Piechocki went 2-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 6 runs and scored twice for the Bats. Gus Russum, who went 5 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 3 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 11. His record now stands at 6-5. The victory gives Austin a record of 40-37.
With Austin leading 2-1 in the bottom of the third, Piechocki hit a fastball from Robby Wilcox for a grand slam home run. It was his 10th home run of the season and put the Bats ahead, 6-1.
"We didn't help ourselves, it's as simple as that," said losing manager Robby Werner.
