Scrappers Raise Rally Flag, Beat Washington, 7-6
|
Alfredo Vélez led Mahoning Valley to a win over Washington. The final score was 7-6. The left fielder collected 2 extra-base hits, including 1 home run and 1 double. Mahoning Valley reliever Don Trojanowski picked up the win to move to 1-2. Lazlo Stromain suffered the loss. Jesús Espinosa earned the save for Mahoning Valley, his 3rd of the year.
Mahoning Valley used the timely hitting of Tim Flores to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Scrappers on top, 7-6. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Flores, "but we got it done."
Mahoning Valley is now riding a 3-game win streak.
