Empire Earn Late 8-7 Win
|
At Roughnecks Ballpark, the New York Empire edged the Philadelphia Liberty, 8-7, in 11 innings. New York center fielder Greg Ohrtman, who jolted 1 home run, was a key contributor. Bob Prial claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. His record stands at 1-3. Jim Shue earned the save, his 1st, for the Empire.
Brad Benson drove in one run for New York. The 24-year old left fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the 11th. With one out and a runner on 3rd, he broke a 7-7 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jayson Litzenberger. It was his 18th RBI of the season.
New York manager Jack Albright was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys went out there and put good wood on the ball," he said.
New York is 6th in the Heartland League with a record of 32-36.
