Millers End Bateman Streak
Monday, June 15th , 2065
The Hartford Whalers lost to the Pittsburgh Millers, 5-4, at Kennywood Park, but perhaps the bigger news was the end of Blake Bateman's 25-game hitting streak. The third baseman went 0-for-3 on the day.
"We felt if we could slow down Bateman, we would win the game," Millers manager Jimmy Collins explained. "They really seemed to feed off his streak, so we tried to put more emphasis on shutting him down."
This season, Bateman has hit 10 home runs and posted a .377 batting average.
