Snappers Lose to Millers, 5-2
|
Pittsburgh pitcher Stephen Gibbs had a large part in his team beating the Syracuse Snappers, 5-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Gibbs, the winner, moves to 7-4. He threw 5.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 3 walks. The save went to Shavar Hannan, his 8th this season.
LaMark Canete had a big 2-run home run for the Millers in the bottom of the third inning. With Pittsburgh leading 2-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a slider from Andy Moore, the 21st overall pick in the 2061 draft, and punished it. The result was his 18th home run of the season, which put the Millers on top, 4-0.
"I liked his command," said Pittsburgh manager Jimmy Collins. "Stephen was throwing strikes."
With the win, the Millers sit at 33-33.
