Freedom Find a Way to Win
|
California got a terrific performance from pitcher Bobby Ferguson, but it wasn't enough to beat the Philadelphia Freedom. Philadelphia won the Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower Field contest, 3-2. Ferguson threw 7.1 innings of 1-hit ball for the losing team. Philadelphia reliever Rich Thomas picked up the win, upping his record to 8-3. Payton Cooke was saddled with the loss. The Freedom' win now puts them at 60-98.
The Freedom procured the win, in large part because of second baseman Joseph Flynn. In the bottom of the tenth, he produced the game-winning run-scoring double.
"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said Flynn.
