Whalers Cut Down Canadians, 4-1
|
Hartford took on Toronto in front of a lively crowd.
The Hartford Whalers defeated the Toronto Canadians, 4-1, in Domestic League action at Samuel Stone Memorial Field. Hartford pitcher Joel Freeman had a standout performance. Freeman picked up the win for Hartford, going 6.2 innings. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 3-0. Dion Bostock, who is tied for 6th in the DL in saves with 26, nailed down the save.
The Canadians had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Whalers going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the former first round draft pick Drake Storey came to the plate. Storey hit a run-scoring double on a 1-1 fastball from Toronto hurler Joel Greer. It was Storey's 26th double of the year.
"All in all, I thought Joel pitched a fine game for us tonight," said Hartford manager Jaylon Simon.
Hartford is now 69-88, while Toronto is 66-91.
