Hayward Lifts Clowns to 6-3 Win
|
The Indianapolis Clowns knocked off the Carolina Tobs, 6-3, at Tobs Stadium. Sean Hayward was a big reason Indianapolis won. The first baseman went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Indianapolis reliever Denver Benson picked up the win, upping his record to 8-3. Dalton Blair shouldered the loss. Jaden Ezell closed the door for Indianapolis, picking up his 26th save of the year.
Hayward had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a 0-1 fastball from Martin Hoffman, he banged a 3-run home run to left-center, giving the Clowns a 6-3 lead. It was the 9th home run of the year for Hayward.
"It's not about individual awards," Hayward told a Indianapolis Times reporter after the game. "It's about winning championships. That's what we play for."
Indianapolis, at 61-75, occupies 5th place in the Domestic League Ale Division.
