Freedom Take Down Bats, 5-4
|
The Washington Bats got a sterling performance from pitcher Evan Baker, but the Philadelphia Freedom still prevailed, 5-4. Baker threw 6.0 innings allowing 3 runs. The win was credited to Turner Hicks in relief. His record improves to 1-2. J.P. Lovins took the loss. Guy Hunnicutt was credited with the save for Philadelphia, his 9th of the season.
The outcome might have been different for Philadelphia, had it not been for Amonte Raper, the three-time All-Star . Raper stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put Philadelphia up, 5-4. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"We need to string a few more wins like this one together," said Raper.
Washington, at 13-28, has lost 4 straight.
