The Philadelphia Freedom defeated the Hartford Whalers, 9-5, at Samuel Stone Memorial Field. Leading the charge for Philadelphia was left fielder Walter Muller. He was 4 for 5 with 2 home runs and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Rich Thomas notched his 6th save of the season. The third-place Freedom have won 4 in a row.

The game turned with no one out in the top of the fourth. That's when Muller hit a solo home run off Ephram Arnold. It propelled the Freedom into the lead, 2-1.

"The fans pay the tickets and help us do what we do, so we like to put on a show for them," Muller told the Philadelphia Daily News.
