Cyclones Top Pittsburgh, 3-2
|
The New York Cyclones got a strong performance from pitcher Alex Landrum, who stymied the Pittsburgh offense en route to a win, 3-2, at Kennedy Field at Metropolitan Stadium. J.R. Arnold notched the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. His record now sits at 3-0. New York has an impressive 27-9 record.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Jarrett Evans came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Pittsburgh pitcher Phil Cole, he hit a first pitch cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New York on top, 3-2.
Landrum expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
