The Hartford Whalers had to overcome a good performance from Wilmington pitcher Ron Bryant to claim a 3-2 win at Samuel Stone Memorial Field. Bryant went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. Dawson Million snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-1 on the season. Richard Dobson suffered the loss. Hartford goes to 10-16.
Avery McKinney was the walk-off hero for Hartford. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Whalers catcher hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Hartford manager Jaylon Simon.
