Clowns Win, 3-1, Versus Rum Runners
|
The Indianapolis Clowns beat the Santo Domingo Rum Runners, 3-1, at The Big Top. Starting pitcher LaVar Abrudan was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. In 6 innings, Abrudan surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. The save was credited to Austin McCollum, his 5th.
The Rum Runners had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Clowns going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the two-time All-Star Tom Holderness came to the plate. Holderness hit a 2-run double on a 1-1 cutter from Santo Domingo hurler Ken Burns. It was Holderness's 7th double of the year.
In postgame comments to the Indianapolis Gazette, Abrudan said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
Indianapolis is now 15-11.
