Canete 4-4 as Millers Squeeze Past Maine
The Pittsburgh Millers topped the Maine Guides, 9-8, with designated hitter LaMark Canete playing a big role. Canete went 4-4 with a home run, 2 doubles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for the Millers in the win. Julian Taft, now 3-0, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 1 and walking 3. The first-place Millers, at 72-55, now lead their division by 9½ games.

Pittsburgh used the timely hitting of Sayon Castillo to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Millers on top, 9-6. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We maximized our offense today," said Pittsburgh skipper Jimmy West. "That makes everyone's life easier."
