Canadians Sneak Past Whalers, 4-3
|
The Toronto Canadians dealt the Hartford Whalers a 4-3 loss at Samuel Stone Memorial Field. Chase Calhoun was the star on offense. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Bruno Sheline, the winning pitcher, is now 5-1. He went 8 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, while fanning 6 and walking 2. Brian Clark picked up the save, his 32nd.
Toronto used the timely hitting of Braden Tallman to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Canadians on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Hartford manager Israel Montero.
The Canadians, at 74-52, lead by one game in their division.
