The New York Cyclones got a superb performance from designated hitter Jim Mjima. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Hartford. The Whalers won the game, 8-3. Mjima was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Jamal Brown got the save, the 26th for him this season. The Whalers now have a mark of 51-61.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Ian Schreiber? The Hartford right fielder had a 2-run single in the top of the sixth inning to put the Whalers on top, 6-3. For the game, Schreiber had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said New York manager Dave Taylor. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
