Freedom Drop Contest, 8-2, to Santo Domingo
|
Santo Domingo starter Rice Cochell pitched effectively against the Philadelphia Freedom at Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower Field. The right-hander led his team to a win, 8-2. Cochell picked up the win for Santo Domingo, going 5 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 10-6. Benny Jacobson picked up the save for Santo Domingo, his 1st of the year.
Santo Domingo used a clutch at-bat from Garrett Paul to capture the win. The first baseman hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Rum Runners ahead, 7-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"It's easier to pitch when you get run support," said Cochell.
The 5th-place Rum Runners have a record of 55-56.
