Big Day for Hay in 11-8 Patriots Win
|
The Pawtucket Patriots trumped the Maine Guides, 11-8, at Pawtucket Park. Pawtucket shortstop Gage Hay was terrific. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 6 runs and scored once. Thomas Sverma snagged the win in relief. In 3.1 innings, the right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit. He's now 2-1 on the season. The first-place Patriots have won 5 consecutive games.
Hay had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 1-0 fastball from Shawn Johnson, he banged a grand slam home run to left-center, giving the Patriots a 10-7 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Hay.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Pawtucket manager Jimmy Williamson.
