Millers Deal Voodoo 5-4 Loss
|
The Pittsburgh Millers faced a tough opponent in New Orleans pitcher Kevin Blackmon, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Henry Byrd Field by a final score of 5-4. Blackmon went 5.2 innings and allowed no runs. Bert Franklin got credit for the win, improving to 8-7. He allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in 7.1 innings. Clete Doyle got the save, his 2nd in 3 chances.
Gavin Tucker, the four-time Defense With Integrity (DWI) Award winner , had a direct impact on the outcome. Tucker contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put Pittsburgh up, 2-0.
"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Tucker told the Pittsburgh Times.
Pittsburgh, at 58-39, is 10½ games up in the Domestic League Ale Division.
