Indianapolis pitcher Ammon Boykin did his part in helping his team beat the Maine Guides, 6-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. In 7.1 innings, Boykin surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 0. He allowed 2 runs. Indianapolis goes to 42-55, Maine to 46-50.
The Clowns got a big at-bat from shortstop Ray Ayres. For the game, Ayres went 3-4 with 2 doubles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 23rd double of the season gave Indianapolis a 2-0 lead.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Ayres told the Indianapolis Observer.
