Bats Hand Patriots 6-4 Loss
|
The Washington Bats topped the Pawtucket Patriots, 6-4, in Import League action at Pawtucket Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of Washington pitcher Justin Casey. The winner in relief was Ralph Shields. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. The save went to Carson Engel, his 1st this season.
The result might have been different for Washington, had it not been for Owen Dooley, the 30-year old shortstop . Dooley stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put Washington up, 2-1. For the game, he had 1 double and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"The vibe's good," said Washington manager Pat Fiume. "We've got to keep it going."
The Bats, now 7-3, have hit the ground running this season.
