Voodoo Turn Away Freedom, 5-3
|
The New Orleans Voodoo beat the Philadelphia Freedom, 5-3, at Henry Byrd Field. The win was due in part to designated hitter Devin Welninski, who went 2 for 3 with a home run, a triple, and a walk. He scored 3 times. Payton Durst, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 5 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 7. His record now stands at 7-5. The win makes New Orleans 41-50.
Jaden Maldonado went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for New Orleans. The 31-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Maurice Frost. It was his 21st RBI of the season.
"There's still time to turn this season around," said Welninski.
