The Hartford Whalers got a stellar performance from pitcher Rich Mount, who handcuffed the Carolina offense en route to a win, 7-1, at Samuel Stone Memorial Field. Mount got the win, improving to 6-8. He allowed 5 hits and walked 2 over 6 innings. Mount allowed 1 run. Marc Hattan, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 3rd save.
