The Math Says - Boston Out of Playoffs Saturday, October 3rd , 2009 The Boston Red Sox were mathematically eliminated from postseason contention today. Mark Melancon of the Red Sox said it's a tough way to finish out the season. "To be eliminated from playoff contention in the last few games, it's not easy," he said. This is the club's 5th playoff miss in a row. They last appeared in the postseason in 2004. In total, the Red Sox have missed the playoffs 116 times in their 128-year history. In the last 10 seasons, the Red Sox have made the playoffs 2 times. Boston has won the World Series 5 times in their history. |
