NL Premier Pitcher is Pittsburgh's Nathan
Tuesday, September 1st , 2009
Joe Nathan has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in August and stole away with the NL Pitcher of the Month award.
The Pirates bullpen ace collected 6 saves and 18 strikeouts in 13.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .212 average and posting a 1.98 ERA and a 4-0 record.
Looking at his pitching stats this season, Nathan has made 53 relief appearances, pitched 52.2 innings and fashioned a 7-7 record with a 3.42 ERA. He has recorded 19 saves, struck out 49 and allowed opposing clubs to hit .233 when he is on the hill.
