Spiders Hurler Named AL's #1 Starter Tuesday, September 1st , 2009 The hottest hurler in the AL last month was Erik Hiljus of the Cleveland Spiders. He caught the attention of everybody in the league with some eye-catching stats, good enough to win the AL Pitcher of the Month. In August, Hiljus starred with an impressive 4-1 record. In 5 starts he gave up 28 base hits and struck out 31 in 36.1 innings with a 1.98 ERA. This year Hiljus has gone 9-10 with an ERA of 3.95 and has 143 strikeouts in 173.1 innings. |
