Wizards Prevail, 8-6, Over Cleveland
|
Despite a great performance by Cleveland first baseman Travis Hafner, the Washington Wizards defeated the Spiders by the score of 8-6 at Wizards Park. Hafner went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Washington reliever Kenichiro Idemoto picked up the win, upping his record to 5-0. Billy Koch took the loss. Washington has an impressive 42-19 record.
Brian McCann dealt the Spiders a blow in the bottom of the sixth. Batting with the bases loaded and Washington leading 5-4, McCann, who is tied for 8th in the NL in RBI with 44, hit a 2-1 fastball for a 2-run single.
"We maximized our offense today," said Washington skipper Rich Hinton. "That makes everyone's life easier."
