Athletics Get Close Win Over Rangers, 5-4
|
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers.
The Texas Rangers got a sterling performance from designated hitter Jemile Weeks, but the Oakland Athletics still prevailed, 5-4. Weeks slugged 2 home runs. Javier Vazquez, who went 9 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 4 runs on 7 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 1-1.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Mark Dolenc came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Texas pitcher Paul Maholm, he hit a first pitch sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Oakland on top, 5-4.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Dolenc.
With the win, Oakland climbs to 5-2.
