Spiders Rough Up Red Sox, 10-3
|
The Cleveland Spiders beat the Boston Red Sox by a score of 10-3. Cleveland right fielder Shin-Soo Choo deserved the lion's share of the credit. Choo belted 3 home runs. He scored 4 times and drove in 5 for the Spiders. Brandon Weeden got credit for the win, improving to 5-3. He allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in 6 innings. The Spiders saw their win-loss record go to 27-34. At the same time, the Red Sox fell to 29-31.
Jim Thome, who finished 4th in the AL in wins above replacement with 7.8 in 2001, chipped in for Cleveland with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first. For the game, the third baseman had 3 hits in 4 at-bats with 2 home runs, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 3 runs batted in.
"I'm trying to keep it simple," said Thome. "Just do my job."
