The Colorado Rockies used the hitting of third baseman Alex Garcia to subdue the San Diego Padres, 9-3. For the game, Garcia was 1 for 5 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 5. Brad Penny earned the win, while 27-year old right-handed pitcher Jose Sanchez took the loss for San Diego. With the win, Colorado boosts its record to 4-3.
Justin Morneau, who finished 3rd in the NL in batting average with .345 in 2006, helped out the Colorado cause in the top of the seventh inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the first baseman drew 1 walk.
"It was a solid, all-around game for us," said Colorado manager Jeff Zimmerman.
