Spiders Get Past New York for 5-4 Win
|
Led by Jim Thome, the Cleveland Spiders defeated the New York Yankees, 5-4. Thome went 2-2 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Spiders. The win belongs to Daigoro Rondon in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Joba Chamberlain took the loss for New York. Jorge Vasquez, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 7th save.
Thome had an important at-bat with runners on 1st and 3rd in the top of the seventh, when he hit a sacrifice fly. The Spiders went on to win.
"I like to lead by example," said Thome. "I'm glad I could contribute to a good win."
The 4th-place Spiders now have a win-loss record of 20-26.
